Four Indian Army Soldiers Killed in J&K Terror Attack Amidst Surge in Incidents Since Recent Elections
In a tragic incident, four Indian Army soldiers, including an officer, lost their lives following a gunfight with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district. The confrontation began on Monday night when joint forces from the Rashtriya Rifles and the Special Operations Group of the J&K Police launched a cordon and search operation in the Desa forest area near Dhari Gote Urarbagi around 7:45 PM.
Among the deceased was Major Brijesh Thappa of the 10th Rashtriya Rifles, who had recently been promoted. Details about the other casualties have not been disclosed. The initial exchange of fire with the terrorists lasted over 20 minutes, resulting in injuries to five security personnel, including Major Thappa, who later succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.
In response, additional troops were deployed to the area to continue the operation, which was ongoing at the last report. The Indian Army’s White Knights Corps mentioned on social media that the operation was based on specific intelligence and involved a heavy exchange of fire with the terrorists.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has been briefed on the situation by the Indian Army Chief. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister and MP from Doda, expressed his disturbance over the incident and reaffirmed the community’s commitment to combating terrorism and maintaining peace.
The incident has prompted political reactions, with the Congress party highlighting an increase in terrorist attacks since the BJP’s third term began. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the government’s national security approach, calling for a reevaluation of security strategies and a united stand against terrorism.
