Army Foils BAT Attack in Kupwara, 1 soldier martyred, Major Among Injured

In a recent encounter along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district, Jammu and Kashmir, at least one soldier was killed and four others, including a Major, were injured as the Army thwarted an attack by Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT). During the operation, a Pakistani terrorist was also killed. BAT, known for including both Pakistan Army commandos and terrorists, has a history of infiltrating the LoC.

This confrontation, the second in Kupwara within three days, began in the Kamkari area following intelligence on possible terrorist movements. The Army reported that the deceased and injured soldiers were evacuated from the site while the gunfight continued. Two intruders managed to escape back to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir amid the intense battle, which lasted for hours.

On July 24, security forces neutralized an unidentified terrorist in an overnight encounter in Kupwara’s Lolab area, which also resulted in the death of a soldier. Sources indicate that around 40 to 50 Pakistani terrorists are currently hiding in the hilly regions of Jammu and Kashmir, leading to large-scale counter-terror operations. These infiltrators are reportedly well-trained and equipped with advanced weapons, including American-made M4 Carbine Rifles with night vision capabilities.
