Mass Pager Explosions Kill Hezbollah members, Injure Over 1,000 in Major Security Breach
In a major security breach on Tuesday, two Hezbollah terrorists were killed, and hundreds more from the group were injured after their communication pagers exploded across Lebanon. The explosions, described as the “biggest security breach” Hezbollah has experienced amid its ongoing conflict with Israel, resulted in a wave of blasts that lasted approximately an hour. More than 1,000 people, including Hezbollah fighters and medical personnel, were injured in the detonations.
Hezbollah confirmed the deaths of two fighters, one of whom was the son of a Hezbollah MP, as well as a young girl who was killed in the incident. While Hezbollah initially did not accuse Israel of orchestrating the blasts, which were confined to the group’s communication network, later reports from the group shifted, placing blame on Israel. Hezbollah vowed to exact “fair punishment” in response to the incident.
The explosions come as Hezbollah, backed by Iran, has been heavily involved in cross-border hostilities with Israel, particularly following the outbreak of the Gaza war on October 7 last year. The Jerusalem Post reported the death of the Hezbollah fighter, marking the first confirmed casualty in the pager blasts. This breach has raised concerns about the vulnerability of Hezbollah’s communication systems in the face of intensified conflict with Israel.
